Gallipoli & Dardanelles International was founded on the principle that its members will guide and mould what it is and does.
Our members have a range of reasons for actively participating. Some have discovered that they have a relative who served at Gallipoli, and our growing library of member’s testimonies, stories and archived material attests to this.
Others may not have such a direct link, but have an interest in the campaign itself, or perhaps a specific regiment or battalion which served there. We all have in common a belief that Gallipoli matters, that it is important to remember those who endured the campaign, and that it is just as important to make its history accessible to the modern world. Whatever has drawn you here, you will be mostwelcome to join us and so contribute to what G&DI is and becomes.
We are quite open in saying that we need you!
Members contribute to its running, to its growth and its activities. Your skills, knowledge and insights can make a real difference.
Our range of activities is growing by the day, and we have space for all kinds of contributions. Whether you have special expertise or not makes no difference. Join us and you will be part of a committed and visionary organisation that is not shackled by tradition, assumptions or rules.
We are truly international. Whilst Gallipoli & Dardanelles International was founded in the UK, our presidency and steering group is drawn from around the world. No one with an interest in Gallipoli is turned away.
You will receive private login details to our members area. Here you will be able to make connections with other members and to contribute to specific sections on a range of special interests relating to Gallipoli.
We are building a unique archive of Gallipoli documents and if you contribute you can choose to make your material available to other members.
News of events, activities and updates about Gallipoli, all with opportunities for participation, will be found here.
As 2015 approaches this member-restricted area will become a central hub for news, organisation and discussion. A members e-newsletter is circulated periodically.
Membership entitles you to use the post nominal letters ‘GDI’. This is not obligatory of course, but it does help to signify your commitment to the organisation and to its aims.
In addition, you will receive a completely free members email address of the form email@example.com which can be used both for communicating with other members and for wider purposes, without restriction. This will be yours for the duration of your membership.
We shall also supply you with personal webspace of your own, linked to the G&DI domain.
If you have an existing website relating to Gallipoli we will be happy to arrange a reciprocal link.
Occasional regional events focus on specific parts of the Gallipoli campaign. We are frequently able to invite expert speakers, both from within the membership and from outside, but these are not simply lectures. For any given event, members are encouraged to bring displays, artifacts and documents and to prepare a short verbal briefing.
Annually, around the world, members participate in and organise remembrance events for the campaign. We do not regulate these in any way, but we can point you to your nearest event with the hope that you might get involved.
Occasionally, according to demand, we also arrange battlefield visits to the Gallipoli peninsula, taking the opportunity to meet with and learn from our local Turkish members.
If you are ready to join, then please click the link below. Membership is currently a modest 10UKP or its international equivalent annually, or 175UKP for life membership. We do not intend to change these rates before 2015.
You will be asked to complete a personal details form which will be held in the strictest confidence.
