Record Attendance at Gallipoli Luncheon
A record number of diners attended the Gallipoli luncheon in King’s Lynn, Norfolk on Friday, 20 June 2014. Organised and hosted by John Crowe, the event has been a regular event at King’s Lynn in recent years, but this was the first time it has been presented under the G&DI banner.
The over-riding atmosphere of the luncheon was international friendship and co-operation, and this was amply demonstrated by a guest list which included people from several countries, with a strong representation from Turkey.
The dinner was held in the historic King’s Lynn Town Hall, which dates back to 1421. President John Crowe welcomed the Mayors of King’s Lynn and Hunstanton, after which a fine, three-course meal and wine was served. After lunch, toasts were proposed to The Queen, The Gallipoli Association of Turkey (Gelibolu Derneği) and Gallipoli & Dardanelles International.
Guest speaker Brigadier-General Haldun Solmaztürk (retired) delivered an informative, illuminating and well-received address. President Crowe announced that the King’s Lynn luncheon is now scheduled to become an annual fixture on the G&DI calendar.
