G&DI members attended the Trooper Potts VC Ball in Reading on Saturday, 1 November 2014, which raised £61,000 to enable a statue to Reading’s only VC winner, Fred Potts, to be erected in Reading next year. Fred Potts won the VC at Gallipoli in 1915 by dragging his wounded comrade, Arthur Andrews, to safety on the blade of a shovel at Scimitar Hill, Suvla Bay.
