Christmas At The Royal Hospital Chelsea
The annual Christmas Cake Ceremony was held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on Wednesday, 10 December 2014 at 11am. This traditional ceremony reflects a long-standing tradition between the Australian states and the Royal Hospital Chelsea. This year the state of New South Wales provided the traditional Christmas fruit cake. The Governor of the Hospital, General Sir Redmond Watt KCB KCVO CBE, welcomed guests and introduced the Australian Head of Defence to the UK, Brigadier William Sowry who spoke about the origins of the ceremony and the importance of the connection between the two countries.
G&DI members present included Brigadier Sowry, Mr Ken Smith, Agent-General for Queensland, President John Crowe, Lindsay Birrell and Simon Kleinig.
