PROUD TURKEY COMMEMORATES VICTORY 100 YEARS AGO
On Wednesday, 18 March 2015, Martyrs’ Day was commemorated in Turkey in proud recognition of the passing of 100 years since determined Ottoman forces successfully repulsed Allied naval attempts to seize the Dardanelles.
Ceremonies were held at the town of Çanakkale on the Dardanelles Straits and at the soaring Martyrs’ Memorial at Morto Bay on the Gallipoli peninsula. Turkish warships staged sail-by salutes in the Dardanelles, while fighter jets performed aerobatic displays.
