Birdwoods Apartment To Open On Anzac Day
The Grace & Favour apartment (No.39) occupied by Field Marshall and Lady Birdwood at Hampton Court Palace is to be opened to the public for the first time on Anzac Day — Saturday, 25 April 2105. Birdwood is remembered as the commander of the ANZACs at Gallipoli, and for successfully overseeing the allied evacuation from the Gallipoli peninsula in December 1915.
Nine rooms of Apartment 39 will be open to the public on Anzac Day and guided tours will operate on an hourly basis throughout the day. There is no charge for these tours, although admittance to the Birdwood’s apartment does not automatically include entry into the rest of Hampton Court Palace, for which an admittance fee applies.
The Birdwood’s occupied the Grace & Favour apartment at Hampton Court between 1943 and 1951.
