Brinbrook & Brookenby Anzac Day Commemoration
Brinbrook & Brookenby Anzac Day Commemoration
by Mrs. Margaret Plant
On a sunny but breezy morning the memorial events started at the Ident Square at RAF Binbrook, Brokenby with a short service and wreath laying followed by a service in the church, housed in the former Sargeants mess. After refreshments the commemorations moved to Binbrook for a further service and wreath laying at the 460 SQ memorial, where Mrs. Margaret Plant laid a wreath on behalf of Gallipoli & Dardanelles Iinternational. Mrs. Plant’s father was in the Royal Marines Light Infantry and went to Gallipoli on the 25th April, 1915. A copy of his diary and photos were among other items on display in the Village Hall. It was a very moving day with lots of stories being told and the whole of the village were most impressed with the flypast by the BBMF Lancaster which appeared with his first pass overhead as Mrs. Plant was laying the wreath on behalf of Gallipoli & Dardanelles International. A very successful day.
