The Welsh at Gallipoli Exhibition – Sponsored by the Welsh Government. 3rd December 2015.
Mr Nadir Imamoglu took a replica of the Gallipoli Memorial tree sculpture at the National Memorial Arboretum to Cardiff Castle at the request of the Welsh Government. This was the same sculpture that was displayed at the Cenotaph in London in the presence of H. M. The Queen on ANZAC Day.
Cardiff Castle provided a beautiful and dramatic setting to the five oak trees on display.
Mr Imamoglu dedicated the Memorial after reading Ataturk’s now well known words of forgiveness and reconciliation. This was in the presence of guests and dignitaries including Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports in Wales, The Mayor of Cardiff, Australian Colonel Arthur Tsamis and the Director of Firing Line Museum.
G&DI is grateful to Mr Imamoglu for this information. Mr Imamoglu is the designer and creator of the Gallipoli Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, believed to be the only one in the UK.
