Fordingbridge Turks Football Club
The President of G&DI attended the Fordingbridge Turks Football Club’s prize giving evening. He met up with the President, the Chairman and the Chief Coach to continue to explore the feasibility of a future match between the club and one from Turkey.
This is the first time since it was founded that the club has a Turkish boy involved in the team (see photo) The club will celebrate it’s 150th anniversary in 2018. It is hoped that a match with a Turkish team will take place during that year.
See previous posting re visit to Fordingbridge by Dr Haldun Solmazturk.
Note: The above club was formed in 1868 and became known as the ‘Turks’ in 1878. This was in recognition of the bravery shown by a few thousand Turkish soldiers against the might of the Russian army at the battle of Plevna in Rumania in 1877.
