Annual Gallipoli Memorial Service
Annual Gallipoli Memorial Service held on 15.9.18 at St Nicholas Church, Dersingham, Norfolk. Organised by Gallipoli & Dardanelles International.
This year we were fortunate to once again have excellent weather. One hundred and fifty attended led by the Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. Of this total there were 35 children. It is so important that the memory is passed down the generations.
Twenty one standards were presented to the alter and during the service sixteen wreaths were laid including one for G&DI laid by Lt Cmdr Arthur Coxon RN (Ret). Arthur is 91 years of age and his father served at Gallipoli.
Officers and their family attended representing Turkey, Australia, Canada and France. New Zealand sent a wreath which was laid by Mrs Ngaire Hall a committee member from New Zealand.
Sadly this is the last year the service will be held in Dersingham. The church has decided to combine all remembrance services together on the official Remembrance Day.
Next year the Service will be held on Saturday 10th August 2019 at All Saints Church, King’s Lynn. This church has a window dedicated to men from King’s Lynn that died at Gallipoli. After the service all are invited to the British Legion Club, King’s Lynn for tea/coffee and ANZAC biscuits.
