During the service, the President of Gallipoli & Dardanelles International, John Crowe, addressed the congregation. He explained G&DI’s aims and objectives of ‘Remembrance’ ‘Friendship’ and ‘Education’ and thanked Nadir Imamoglu for organising these services.
Mr Nadir Imamoglu read Ataturk’s words of peace and reconciliation in English followed by Mr Seyfi Onur Sayin, Turkish Consul General from Manchester, in Turkish,.
After the service the congregation led by the Standard of G&DI proceeded to theGallipoli Memorial (designed and created by Mr Nadir Imamoglu).
A brief service then followed during which wreaths were laid including one from G&DI laid by Committee Member Mr Robert Hall. Committee member Mrs Ngaire Hall, a New Zealander, laid one for the New Zealand High Commission.
When this moving event was completed all returned to the Arboretum for light refreshments and to share stories of remembrance.
