Annual Gallipoli Memorial Service held on lst August 2026, at All Saints Church, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, organised by Gallipoli & Dardanelles International.

This well attended annual service was held at this lovely old church, thanks to the invitation of the Rector, Revd Canon Adrian Ling CMP.

The congregation was led by the Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Councillor Steve Bearshaw.

Eight Standards including G&DI’s Standard were presented to the alter.

Representatives attended for France, Australia, New Zealand, and the Gurkhas.

Thirteen wreaths were laid including one for G&DI at a Memorial Window bearing the names of King’s Lynn men, that died during WW1, including Gallipoli.

The Exhortation was read by Major David Bredin (Retd)

Sadly the Turkish representative was unable to attend, so Ataturk’s words of peace and reconciliation were read by Captain Morgan Findlay, of the New Zealand Defence Force.

After the service the congregation joined together for tea/coffee and home made ANZAC Biscuits.

Sadly this was to be the last Memorial Service to be conducted by Father Adrian Ling as he is moving on to a new Parish. The President of G&DI presented him with a framed photograph from last years service, and thanked all for attending.

He said that the Gallipoli Campaign had been seen as a ‘Side Show’ during the First World War, but the casualties involved for all the countries involved were considerable. The figures would not be accepted at this time.

It was an excellent service, fulfilling the ‘Aims and Objectives of Gallipoli & Dardanelles International, namely ‘ Remembrance, Friendship & Education’

Next year the service will be held on Saturday 7th August 2027.
